Jetty @ Kolkata!

Jetty!

I had gone to the Jetty today with Writankar.. a Photography enthusiast.. Princep Ghat particularly. I am barely a photographer myself, though I like taking a nice shot here and there, but one does not have to be one to realize that the Jetty is a Photographer’s Paradise! Amazing images especially during sunset — the blue-orange skies and the boats, ferries and other navy ships. Not to mention the spectacular Howrah Bridge and Vidyasagar Setu.

I spent a good 2-3 hours there and what I also realized was that the cross-section of people that visit the place make it a Macrocosm of Kolkata.. and truly expresses the city that Kolkata is.. all-encompassing. There was the old passionate Photographer carrying a Nikon D-SLR and also the exploratory foreigner with a camera and a tripod. There was the Sardar with Chunnu, Munnu and family as well as a couple of South Indian Ladies with Gajra around their hair. There was “Bombay Pav Bhaji” and “Scoop” for Ice Creams. There was pretty much everything you wanted to see..

Highlight of the evening: Writankar gets an SMS from a friend asking him “What you upto?”.. And he replies.. “At the Strand, by the jetty, capturing the city through my lenses!”…. Pretty much sums it up!

Catch all the pics on my Picasa Web Album.
