The GOOD that people do!

Today seems to be a good day – Media-wise -for me! Friends featured all over – There is an article in MoneyToday about “Innovating to stay ahead”. It features some friends – so I just thought I’d record these links:

ET: Power of Ideas: Round 2


I attended the lead-up to the second round of the Economic Times – Power of Ideas. I think it is a phenomenal initiative to nurture entrepreneurs. The session I was invited for (as a prominent Blogger by the ET Branding Team) was for mentoring the shortlisted applicants for Round 2- which they call “The Elevator Pitch.”

One thing I have to admit is that the Economic Times Branding Team is making a phenomenal amount of effort in traveling from city to city to connect with grass root entrepreneurs – making sense out of 11,5000 entries is quite something – hats off to Anand, Priya, Vinod and all others involved with the initiative!

A number of questions were answered and Ms. Ruparel, who was answering questions about the evaluation process from Indian Angel Network (IAN) conducted the session wonderfully. The eight-member IAN panel comprised:

  • Harish Mehta, CMD of Onward Technologies;
  • Ajay Garg, founder of Equirus Capital,
  • Priyank Garg of Yahoo India;
  • Satya Bansal, country head, Barclays Wealth;
  • Rehan Yaar Khan, founder of;
  • Bharat Banka, CEO & president, Corporate Finance at the Aditya Birla Group;
  • Krishna Jha, head, mobile data at OnMobile; and
  • Vipul Mankad, MD, SIDBI Ventures

I must add here – that I found some of the insights from Mr. Krishna Jha and Mr. Khan was very insightful! All in all – another interesting event to attend.. Thanks a ton ET – for implementing the initiative for the Indian Entrepreneur.. and thanks a ton for having me over! šŸ™‚

Quetzal Verify – The ‘NEW’ Website!

When you work towards something, it is always a pretty sight to see the output. When you wanted to changeĀ something before coming into an organization, and you actually make it happen after spending some time there – it’s a good feeling – no matter how small the “something” is.Ā I wanted to “re-do” the Quetzal Verify website – and its finally done – Follow the link!


Thanks a lot Rishi for patiently going through multiple rounds of changes, additions, subtractions to give it the present form. Rishi has been great to work with and has quite a command over Joomla – the open source CMS we used to design the website.Ā Thanks a lotĀ KKĀ – Ā going through theĀ Capillary TechnologiesĀ website gave me the final push to go ahead andĀ Just Do It!

One of the amazing things that came out of this excercise was the fact that the use of colours in a GUI is never random. It has a reason and a purpose. Devashish had trumendous insight here. He asked me to go through this article and then look at 30-odd websites to gather data about “where” and “how” the combination of Orange and Blue were used on different websites. My research revealed that:
  • 12 out of the 30 sites had an orange header / orange label headings on the sidebar
  • 10 out of the 30 sites had only ONE orange componentĀ 
  • 3 out of the 12 sites had an equal distrbution of orange and blue across header, navigation menus, buttons, etc.Ā 

My research included 3 websites of Human Capital Management companies (working in domains similar to Quetzal Verify), and I noticed that on each of these 3 websites that the sites were predominantly Blue with a subtle (rather, minimal) but striking use of Orange – which is the basis for the colour combination we finally went ahead with.
